FAQ
Questions, answered.
No. Oklahoma is a direct access state, which means you can schedule an evaluation and begin physical therapy without first obtaining a physician referral.
Under Oklahoma law, physical therapists may evaluate and treat patients directly. If treatment extends beyond 30 consecutive days, a referral is required from an appropriate licensed healthcare provider, such as a physician (MD or DO), nurse practitioner (NP), physician assistant (PA), dentist, podiatrist, or chiropractor, depending on your condition and their scope of practice.
If, during your evaluation or treatment, I identify signs or symptoms outside the scope of physical therapy or requiring additional medical evaluation, I'll refer you to the appropriate healthcare provider.
